Khachaturyan gives wrong figure for 2020 war casualties

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan mistakenly said during a visit to CEVRO University in Prague that 4,800 Armenian servicemen had been killed during the 44-day war in September-November 2020.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Agasi Margaryan, head of the Public Relations Department of the Presidential Administration, said that the figure was incorrect.

“We apologize for the mistake and clarify that the number of people killed in the 44-day war was 3,755,” Margaryan said.

However, on May 15, Armenian National Security Council Secretary Armen Simonyan said that 3,833 people had been killed on the Armenian side during the 44-day war, while around 160 remained missing.

Thus, the Armenian Presidential Administration’s “correction” is also incorrect.
