11:33

Voting has begun in Kazakhstan for the nationwide referendum on the new draft Constitution.

Axar.az reports that most polling stations in the country opened at 7:00 a.m. local time and will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

The Central Referendum Commission previously reported that the first polling stations opened at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic mission in Japan. Within Kazakhstan, including some military bases, certain special polling stations opened at 6:00 a.m.

On election day, more than 10,000 polling stations are operating across the country, while 71 stations have been opened abroad in 54 countries at Kazakh embassies and consulates.

A total of over 12.4 million people have been registered in the referendum voter lists.
