Kazakhstan holds referendum on new constitution

Voting has begun in Kazakhstan for the nationwide referendum on the new draft Constitution.

Axar.az reports that most polling stations in the country opened at 7:00 a.m. local time and will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

The Central Referendum Commission previously reported that the first polling stations opened at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic mission in Japan. Within Kazakhstan, including some military bases, certain special polling stations opened at 6:00 a.m.

On election day, more than 10,000 polling stations are operating across the country, while 71 stations have been opened abroad in 54 countries at Kazakh embassies and consulates.

A total of over 12.4 million people have been registered in the referendum voter lists.
