Kazakhstan plans next presidential elections in 2029

Kazakhstan’s next presidential elections will be held in 2029, in line with the current Constitution.

Axar.az reports President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made the statements at a polling station in Astana.

Commenting on the creation of a vice-president position, Tokayev said that while some foreign analysts have suggested that constitutional reforms might be preparing for a future power transition, there is no reason for concern, and these changes will strengthen state institutions.

He expressed confidence that the new vice-president role, along with other reforms, will demonstrate its value over time.

Tokayev explained that the vice-president, acting on the president’s instructions, will represent Kazakhstan in international forums, interact with domestic and foreign institutions, and carry out other tasks assigned by the president.
