US has not explained Trump’s order to resume nuclear tests

The United States has yet to provide clear explanations regarding President Donald Trump’s directive on resuming nuclear tests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Axar.az informs Lavrov noted that there are still no prospects for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty entering into force, stressing that the main reason is Washington’s failure to ratify the agreement.

He recalled that in October 2025, Trump publicly instructed the defense secretary to look into resuming nuclear testing. “So far, the United States has not provided a clear explanation of what exactly was meant or whether Washington is preparing to abandon its moratorium on full-scale nuclear explosions,” Lavrov said.

He added that the future of the nuclear non-proliferation regime is causing “serious concern” amid the acute military and political crisis in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.

According to Lavrov, more countries are increasingly coming to believe that possessing nuclear weapons may be the only reliable guarantee of protecting their security, a trend he warned carries serious proliferation risks.
