US and Israeli intelligence agencies are attempting to locate Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
Axar.az reports, citing Axios, intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Mossad, are closely monitoring Mojtaba Khamenei, whose public absence has raised questions about his health and authority.
Since the Israeli strike that killed his father, Mojtaba Khamenei has reportedly been “wounded and likely disfigured”, according to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Despite a written Telegram statement for Nowruz, he has not appeared in video or in person, prompting speculations over his ability to lead.
"We have no evidence that he is really the one giving orders," a senior Israeli official told Axios.
A U.S. official stated that "It's beyond weird. We don't think the Iranians would have gone through all this trouble to choose a dead guy as the supreme leader, but at the same time, we have no proof that he is taking the helm."
Experts note his absence may reflect injuries and security concerns rather than incapacity. Meanwhile, the IRGC is effectively filling the leadership vacuum.
"The IRGC are taking over Iran and they are crazy. They are highly ideological and are ready to die and meet Khamenei Senior," a senior Arab official said.
The situation remains fluid, with U.S. and Israeli officials uncertain how much control Mojtaba Khamenei truly exercises.
