Phil Klay: U.S. military lacks clear objectives in Iran

The U.S. military operation against Iran lacks coherent justification and clear objectives.

Axar.az reports, citing The New York Times, Phil Klay, a Marine veteran and novelist, argues that unlike past wars, where soldiers at least understood their purpose, the rationale for action against Iran is inconsistent.

Klay criticizes the administration’s focus on displays of violence and domination as a break from America’s historical principles of war guided by moral and political purpose.

"The justifications for the war have been stunningly incoherent. Maybe the war is about regime change, about Iran’s nuclear program, about the narrow military objectives of degrading their ballistic missile and drone capabilities, or perhaps it was because Israel was about to attack and we’d be at risk, or because the United States was under imminent threat from Iran, or to achieve peace in the Middle East, and so on," Klay said.
