Merz thanks Trump for postponing strikes on Iran

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump after he postponed planned strikes on Iranian power plants by five days.

Axar.az reports, citing Zeit, Merz highlighted that the delay created an opportunity for immediate and direct diplomatic contacts with Iran’s leadership.

Speaking about his Sunday phone call with Trump, Merz said he had voiced his concerns regarding the announced attacks. He also offered Germany’s support, citing the country’s strong regional contacts, and emphasized that the goal is to do everything possible to achieve a ceasefire in the region.
