As previously reported, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has been appointed as the new secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Axar.az reports that he is a retired commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The 71-year-old Zolghadr currently serves as secretary of the Expediency Council.
He previously held deputy positions in Iran’s judicial system, focusing on strategic, public security, and crime prevention issues, and also served as deputy for security affairs at the Ministry of Interior during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency.
Zolghadr was appointed as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council on March 24, 2026, following the assassination of Ali Larijani by U.S.-Israeli forces.
