Lukashenko may join Board of Peace this year

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko may participate in this year’s Board of Peace meeting if it is deemed acceptable by Minsk.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, presidential spokeswoman Natalia Eismont stated that: “if the meeting takes place this year and if it is approved by the Belarusian side, we will certainly attend this summit.”

Lukashenko previously told journalists that he had committed to the United States to attend the upcoming meeting, explaining that he missed the first session in Washington on February 19 due to a sudden combat readiness inspection of Belarusian armed forces.

In March, a US delegation in Minsk conveyed a proposal from US leader Donald Trump to hold a high-level meeting in Florida.

John Cole, the head of the delegation and US Presidential Special Envoy, later told the US press that the invitation to Lukashenko had been under discussion in Washington for “several months.”
