Australian flags mistakenly placed ahead of King Charles visit

A number of Australian flags were mistakenly placed near the White House instead of British flags ahead of King Charles III’s upcoming visit to the United States, officials said.

Axar.az informs, citing Reuters, that according to a District of Columbia Department of Transportation official, the error was quickly corrected after 15 Australian flags were briefly displayed among more than 230 flags set up to welcome the British monarch in Washington.

Charles is also the head of state of Australia, though the role is largely ceremonial.

The flags were later replaced with British flags ahead of the king’s state visit on Monday, which will mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence from British rule.

The visit is being seen as the most high-profile trip of Charles’ reign and is aimed at reinforcing the “special relationship” between the two allies, which officials say has recently faced strains linked to the Iran conflict.
