Zelensky: Russia responded to ceasefire bid with strikes

Ukraine has proposed a ceasefire to Russia, suggesting a halt in hostilities starting from May 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Axar.az reports, citing the official website of the President of Ukraine, that Zelensky stated Ukraine was ready to ensure a complete ceasefire, but instead of a response, Russia launched new strikes and issued new threats.

“Ukraine has proposed a ceasefire to Russia – and this is by no means the first such proposal from Ukraine – this time calling for a ceasefire starting on May 6. Ukraine was ready to ensure complete silence. But in response to this peace proposal of ours, there were only new Russian strikes and new threats from Russia,” he said.

Zelensky added that Russia was seeking “permission to hold their parade” in order to “safely take to the square for an hour once a year, and then go back to killing our people and waging war.”

He also described the Russian leadership’s logic as “a strange and certainly twisted logic,” and noted that messages had been received from some states close to Russia regarding their representatives’ planned presence in Moscow, calling it “an odd desire” and stating: “We do not recommend it.”

Zelensky expressed gratitude to Ukrainian military units, including the Special Operations Forces and other components of the defense sector, for their actions and results.

He said Ukraine carried out long-range strikes against several targets, including a missile ship capable of launching Kalibr missiles in the Caspian Sea region and an oil industry facility in the Perm region, more than 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.

According to him, additional strikes were carried out in Bryansk, Tuapse, and against Russian oil infrastructure facilities, with Ukraine’s intelligence assessing the results as “satisfactory.”
