Rubio says U.S. ready to support Ukraine peace efforts

We remain ready to play any role we can in that context of bringing a peace about because we think the war in Ukraine has no military solution. It can only be solved through a diplomatic route.

Axar.az reports that Rubio said Washington has been actively involved in trying to bring both sides to negotiations.

“We’ve been very involved in trying to get the two sides to the negotiating table… Unfortunately, so far neither side has been willing to make concessions, particularly on the Russian side, necessary in order to bring peace about,” he said.

He added that the United States believes the conflict has no military solution and can only be resolved through diplomacy.

Rubio also noted that while the U.S. is not an impartial mediator—providing military aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia—Washington continues to engage actively in the peace process.

“We are not impartial mediators. We have clearly taken a side,” he said.

He added that prospects for a breakthrough remain uncertain but expressed hope for progress.

“As of right now, the prospects don’t look great that either side is prepared to make the concessions necessary. Hopefully, this year will bring better news,” Rubio said.
