Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir has sharply criticized the US-brokered ceasefire with Lebanon, calling it a “grave mistake” and “delusional thinking of advisers” that leads the prime minister to wrong decisions.
Axar.az reports, in a post on X, Ben Gvir said Hezbollah has not left areas south of the Litani River, adding that the Lebanese army has no means of enforcing its withdrawal.
He stated that Lebanon is “a partner of Hezbollah,” alleging that Hezbollah-affiliated ministers serve in its government and that relatives of Hezbollah members serve in the Lebanese army.
Ben Gvir warned that Hezbollah would only grow stronger as a result of the ceasefire, arguing that Israel is effectively accepting its continued existence instead of defeating it.
He said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should have told U.S. President Donald Trump that Israel is a sovereign state that cannot accept the strengthening or continued existence of a terrorist organization on its border.
“There are moments when you must know how to say ‘no’ even to the President of the United States,” he added, warning that otherwise Israel would face Hezbollah again when it is stronger and more dangerous.
Ben Gvir also said he had been informed of the intentions in a restricted meeting with the prime minister and called for a cabinet discussion and vote on the ceasefire decision, concluding: “This is a grave mistake!”
