Smoking banned on four Antalya beaches

Smoking has been banned on four major beaches in Turkiye’s Antalya province as part of a new environmental initiative aimed at reducing marine pollution.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, the ban will initially apply to Lara, Belek, Camyuva, and Beach Park beaches, starting immediately.

The measure, introduced under the “Blue Mediterranean Initiative,” is designed to reduce cigarette butt pollution and protect the marine ecosystem, particularly ahead of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), which Antalya is preparing to host.

Authorities say the goal is to create smoke-free coastal zones to improve environmental conditions and protect public health, especially for children and families.

Under the new framework, smoking will be prohibited on the designated beaches, while specially designated smoking cabins or areas are expected to be introduced at intervals for smokers.

Officials also indicated that the policy is part of a broader national draft plan aiming to significantly expand smoke-free public spaces in Turkiye in the coming years.
