Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin's response to his recent open letter, accusing Moscow of choosing to prolong the war rather than pursue peace.
Axar.az reports, citing RBC-Ukraine, Zelensky made the statement in his evening video address while commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin's response to his open letter.
“Unfortunately, the Russian side once again chooses war – everyone heard the response today. Weak response. He simply does not want to end the war. I think many around the world were disappointed by that response,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader argued that Putin remains unwilling to alter Russia's course in the conflict.
“He does not want to change anything and refuses to acknowledge that this war appeals only to him – and to those who are making money off him,” Zelensky said, adding that “they were all smiling very broadly today.”
Calling for increased international pressure on Moscow, Zelensky stated: “That means Russia must have less money, and there must be more pressure on Russia.”
His comments came after Putin said earlier on Friday that he currently saw “no point” in holding a personal meeting with Zelensky, despite the Ukrainian leader's proposal for direct talks aimed at ending the war.
