Ukraine and Russia should handle issues related to ending the war themselves.

Axar.az reports, citing the White House, that US President Donald Trump made the remarks while answering journalists' questions aboard Air Force One.

According to the US president, his administration helped bring the sides to their current position in the peace process.

“Well, I don't mind. I mean, let them deal with it. I'm the one that got them to this position, and I think that's going to get worked out. I think we're getting close to where Russia and Ukraine should have,” Trump said.

He added that the conflict is one that “should have never happened” and expressed confidence that a settlement could be reached.

It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that the key issues should be resolved directly between Russia and Ukraine.
