Russia has expressed serious concern over a new escalation in the Middle East and called for a return to political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation.

Axar.az reports that Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made the remarks during a briefing on Wednesday.

“We are extremely concerned about a new round of the US–Iran armed confrontation, which began with an unprovoked US–Israeli act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We call on all sides to exercise restraint and immediately stop military attacks. We also reiterate the absolute inadmissibility of strikes on civilian infrastructure.

We remain convinced that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic solution based on international law and taking into account the security interests of all countries in the region,” she said.
