Trump calls for major nuclear disarmament deal

U.S. President Donald Trump said he would support a major nuclear disarmament agreement, arguing that the world does not need enough weapons to destroy itself multiple times.

Axar.az reports, speaking at a press conference held on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Trump said the United States has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, followed by Russia, while China is rapidly expanding its capabilities.

“We have the most. Russia has the second. China is very far behind, but going to catch up. Unfortunately, they’re catching up,” Trump said, adding that China could reach parity with the U.S. and Russia within five years.

Trump said he would like to pursue a nuclear reduction agreement between the major powers.

“We ought to make a denuclearisation deal so great. We don’t need all of that. We don’t need to be able to blow up the whole world 300 times over. It’s terrible, really. If we could do a denuke deal, I’d love it,” he said.

Trump also praised the U.S. military and the establishment of the Space Force, saying American military technology had contributed to the country’s successes.
