UN Security Council to hold briefing on Ukraine on June 22

The UN Security Council will hold an open briefing on Ukraine on Monday, June 22, following a request from Kyiv over recent Russian missile and drone attacks.

Axar.az reports, citing the UN, Ukraine has accused Russia of escalating the war, citing a large-scale attack on June 14–15 that involved hundreds of missiles and drones, killing at least 11 civilians and damaging infrastructure, including the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery complex.

UN officials are expected to address the impact of continued hostilities on civilians and humanitarian conditions. Council members are likely to remain divided, with European countries condemning Russian strikes and calling for a ceasefire, while others are expected to urge dialogue and de-escalation.

Russia has denied targeting civilians, saying its strikes focus on military and energy facilities, and has accused Ukraine and its allies of escalating the conflict.
