Putin’s rule faces growing challenges

Russia’s ability to defend its territory and maintain influence among allies is facing growing challenges as Ukrainian drone attacks reach deeper into Russian territory.

Axar.az reports, citing The Hill, according to an opinion article by Jonathan Sweet and Mark Toth, recent strikes on targets in Saint Petersburg and Moscow, including energy facilities and military sites, have exposed weaknesses in Russia’s air defense capabilities.

They also highlighted Ukraine’s efforts to pressure Russian forces on the battlefield and isolate Crimea.

The article also pointed to signs of concern from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who has avoided committing Belarusian troops to the war in Ukraine and acknowledged his country’s military vulnerabilities.

The authors argue that continued battlefield setbacks, attacks inside Russia, and growing doubts among allies are increasing pressure on Putin’s leadership as the war continues.
