Russia's Foreign Ministry has again urged Russian citizens to refrain from traveling to Moldova, alleging that the Moldovan authorities have intensified discriminatory measures against Russians entering the country.
Axar.az reports, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry, that Russian passport holders arriving at Chisinau International Airport are subjected to "humiliating searches, interrogations and checks," with some forced to wait for hours in the transit zone "without basic amenities, access to water and food."
It also alleged that travelers are asked to "voluntarily" hand over their mobile phones for inspection, describing the practice as an unlawful examination of personal data. According to the ministry, some Russians are subsequently denied entry without explanation.
The Foreign Ministry further claimed Moldovan authorities often delay departure procedures, causing passengers to miss flights, and said consular staff from the Russian Embassy in Chisinau are denied access to detained Russian citizens.
"In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry once again strongly recommends that Russian citizens refrain from traveling to the Republic of Moldova," the statement said.
