Safe Hormuz transit requires coordination with Tehran

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed without taking Iran's interests into account.

Axar.az reports that in a statement on his X account, Gharibabadi responded to reports of efforts to establish alternative shipping routes outside the framework of joint Iran-Oman management.

"Safe transit in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed through ambiguous arrangements, parallel routes or decision-making outside Iran's considerations as the coastal state," Gharibabadi wrote.

"Any legitimate framework must be based on coordination with Iran and the provisions of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Otherwise, the result will be the suspension of the designated parallel route," he added.
