Russia imports gasoline from India amid fuel shortages

Russia has begun importing gasoline from India by sea to help ease fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian attacks on its energy infrastructure.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that at least 60,000 metric tons of gasoline have already been shipped from India to Russia, one source said, while another said two tankers carrying 30,000 to 40,000 tons each have been dispatched.

A third source said Russia plans to import 400,000 tons of gasoline per month from several countries, including neighboring Belarus, which has already increased fuel exports to Russia.

President Vladimir Putin acknowledged this week that Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries had caused fuel shortages in some regions but said the government was addressing the situation.

Fuel shortages have led to rationing, long queues at filling stations and record-high gasoline prices across parts of Russia.
