Turkiye to host NATO summit again after 22 years

Turkiye will host a NATO summit once again after 22 years, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that Fidan noted that when Turkiye last hosted a NATO leaders' summit in 2004, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was serving as prime minister and welcomed world leaders.

He said Erdogan will now host another summit of major importance.

Fidan said the summit underscores Turkiye's strategic importance within the Alliance.

"In particular, under the heading of burden-sharing, how the principle that NATO members enter into a common burden-sharing and put forward a common effort for the security of the alliance is being implemented in practice will be put on the table again," he said.
