Putin, Trump discuss Ukraine, Iran in phone call

Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation, discussing the Ukraine conflict, the situation around Iran, and bilateral relations.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, that Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated that during the call, Putin congratulated Trump and the American people on U.S. Independence Day.

According to Ushakov, Putin told Trump that Russia would continue pursuing its objectives in Ukraine and criticized what he described as “false perceptions” of the battlefield situation held by Kyiv and its European supporters.

Trump, for his part, reiterated his readiness to support “the swift cessation of hostilities and the search for peaceful solutions to overcome the crisis,” Ushakov said.

The two leaders also discussed Iran, with Putin expressing Russia’s readiness to help de-escalate tensions in the region.

The conversation lasted about one hour and 25 minutes, and both sides agreed to maintain contacts and hold another phone call in the near future.
