U.S. President Donald Trump has said the United States will take control of the Strait of Hormuz and should be compensated for securing the vital waterway.
Axar.az reports that, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said the U.S. would assume responsibility for the strategic maritime route.
"We're taking over the strait," Trump said.
He added that the United States would receive payment for controlling the waterway, although he did not specify who would provide the funds.
"We're going to keep the strait, and we'll probably run it. We'll become the guardian of the strait. Maybe we'll call it the guardian angel of the strait, and we should be reimbursed for that," Trump said.
