Sixth round of Israel-Lebanon talks set to begin in Rome

The sixth round of talks between Israel and Lebanon is slated to begin today in Rome, and to continue tomorrow as well.

Axar.az reports, citing Times of Israel, this is the first meeting since a framework agreement was signed between the two countries in Washington last month.

The talks are expected to focus on the pilot program that will see the Lebanese Armed Forces move into territory that the IDF withdraws from, with the aim of ensuring that it is clear of Hezbollah weapons.

Israel’s Ambassador to Washington Yechiel Leiter will lead the Israeli delegation.

A US military delegation met with Lebanon’s army in Beirut earlier this week to discuss the implementation of Israel’s withdrawal.

The agreement — rejected by Hezbollah — does not set a timetable for Israel’s withdrawal, and Israeli officials have also vowed that their forces will remain in a “security zone” 10 kilometers (six miles) deep as long as Hezbollah remains armed.
