Eight dead, 34 missing after China landslide

Eight people have been killed and 34 remain missing after a landslide struck southwest China's Chongqing municipality.

Axar.az reports, citing Chinese media, that the landslide hit Pengshui county on Friday morning, destroying several residential buildings.

Local officials issued an emergency warning after detecting sporadic rockfalls and evacuated more than 60 residents before the landslide occurred. However, several people were trapped as they were leaving the area.

More than 800 rescuers have been deployed to the disaster site, and over 1,100 nearby residents have been evacuated. Authorities have also cut off water, electricity and gas supplies within a one-kilometer radius to facilitate rescue operations and assess risks.
