Eight people were injured, including two seriously, in a gas explosion near the entrance to a metro station in Barcelona, Spain.

Axar.az reports, citing EFE, that the explosion occurred late Wednesday at the Placa de Sants station on Metro Line 5, which is currently undergoing renovation works. The blast triggered a major fire.

All of the injured were construction workers.Two are in serious condition, three sustained moderate injuries, and three suffered minor injuries.

According to authorities, a gas leak occurred around 2:40 p.m. local time after a pipeline was damaged during construction work.
