Medvedev: West sees Armenia as tool against Russia

The West will turn its back on Armenia once it no longer sees it as a tool against Russia.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev made the remarks.

According to the Russian official, the European Union and the United States are not interested in the well-being of Armenia or its citizens.

Medvedev believes that cutting economic ties with Russia amid Yerevan’s further rapprochement with the West could have serious consequences for Armenia.

“The European Union and the United States absolutely do not care about the well-being of the citizens of this country. As soon as Armenia ceases to be of interest to them as a battering ram against Russia, the West’s political weather vanes will instantly abandon all their promises, as if they had never existed,” Medvedev said.

He added that despite Yerevan’s continued rapprochement with the West, the US and the EU could leave Armenia without support.

According to the Russian Security Council deputy chairman, cutting economic ties with Russia could lead to a deep internal crisis in Armenia, and possibly even more serious consequences.
