Zelensky: Putin needs to capture Donbas to sell victory

Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to capture Donbas to present the war as a victory, but Ukraine will not withdraw from its territory.

Axar.az reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made the remarks in an interview with the United News telethon.

“He needs to sell a victory. He will not have a victory in Ukraine. He needs to capture Donbas. We are not going to withdraw on our own. What can he sell as a victory? He will distort these Anchorage terms that they discussed with the American side, with the U.S. President. No one is going to abandon their country and their people and simply leave, because no one can guarantee that this person will not go further,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky also warned that Russia could resort to hundreds or thousands of cyberattacks, missile pressure and intimidation, adding that Putin was considering mobilization and other measures to sustain the war effort.

"We need to have a general understanding of what is happening with the Russians in order to understand that they will resort to anything. There will be hundreds, thousands of cyberattacks, missile pressure, intimidation, and so on. They are not changing. Why? Putin cannot yet find a victory in this war. Unfortunately, we have to acknowledge and understand what is happening," he said.

"He is thinking about mobilization. He is thinking about how to deceive his own people — carrying out mass mobilization without officially announcing it, making some kind of shadow contracts, blocking borders, and so on. We see this. We are already seeing many corresponding steps," he added.
