Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made his first official visit to Serbia, marking a notable shift in Belgrade’s policy toward Kyiv.

Axar.az reports, citing Switzerland’s NZZ publication, that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic welcomed Zelensky despite Serbia’s long-standing balancing policy between Russia and the West.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Serbia has supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity but has refused to join European Union sanctions against Russia, maintaining close ties with Moscow.

The visit had initially been planned for May but was canceled by Kyiv at short notice.

According to the report, Vucic’s decision to invite Zelensky is driven partly by Serbia’s own strategic interests. For Moscow, the Ukrainian president’s visit to Belgrade represents a setback.
