IDF killed Hamas commander in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it killed Sabahi Sami Mahmoud Shahata, a platoon commander in Hamas’ military wing, in a strike in the Nuseirat area of the Gaza Strip.

Axar.az reports, citing the IDF’s Telegram channel, that Shahata infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7, 2023 attack and took part in holding numerous hostages captive by Hamas during the war.

According to the IDF, Shahata also participated in the November 2023 handover ceremony for released hostages and their transfer to the Red Cross as part of a hostage release agreement.

The military said Shahata had recently attempted to advance attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians and was killed to eliminate the threat.

The IDF added that its Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to operate against immediate threats.
