A supertanker caught fire and stopped after being struck by two naval mines while attempting to use what Iran calls an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing Iran International, that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday.

“A noncompliant supertanker seeking to pass through the illegal southern route of the Strait of Hormuz was struck by two naval mines, suffered massive fires and was brought to a complete stop,” the IRGC said.

The IRGC Navy did not identify the vessel, its flag, cargo or crew, and provided no information about casualties.
It warned that other vessels violating its navigation rules would face the same fate and told shipping companies not to follow US military instructions.
