Two of the six suspects detained aboard the Alsu have been arrested following a collision between two Turkish-flagged commercial vessels off Silivri.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu, the investigation by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing after the Turkish-flagged commercial vessel Tugberk Imamoghlu, which was sailing from Kocaeli to Aliagha carrying rolled steel and construction rebar, collided with the Turkish-flagged Alsu about 18 nautical miles south of Silivri. The Tugberk Imamoghlu sank in the collision, and its 10-member crew remains missing.

As part of the investigation, nine of the 10 people aboard the Alsu, excluding the cook, gave statements as suspects.

Based on a preliminary report prepared by an expert panel appointed to determine the parties’ liability in the incident, six suspects who had completed their statements aboard the vessel were brought to the Silivri Courthouse.

Following questioning by the prosecution, the Alsu’s first and third captains were referred to a criminal judgeship of peace with a request for their arrest, based on their assessed degree of fault.

The court ordered the arrest of Alsu’s first captain Ahmet Erarslan and third captain Murat Evciman. The other four suspects were released under judicial control.
