U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that if Ukraine can properly manage its economy, it could serve as a major deterrent to Russia.
Axar.az reports that Bessent made the remark while speaking at Breitbart News.
"The Soviet bloc collapsed, Poland and Ukraine had the same-sized economy. Poland is three times bigger now. So on that, if Ukraine could properly manage their economy, then that can be a big deterrent for the Russians. This is what the Russians are doing to Ukraine is one of the worst things I've seen in my lifetime. But if you don't talk, you can't stop it," he said.
It should be noted that, according to World Bank estimates, Ukraine’s nominal GDP stood at $77.4 billion in 1991, compared with $85.5 billion for Poland.
