Moscow arrests British embassy security guard

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a former security guard at the British Embassy in Moscow who allegedly worked as an agent for Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that the FSB’s Public Relations Center said the individual collected information about British diplomats on the instructions of Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, known by the pseudonym “Apostol Dmitry.”

“During counterintelligence operations, the Federal Security Service exposed a Russian citizen born in 1981 as an agent of Ukraine’s Security Service. He had worked for an organization responsible for guarding the British Embassy in Moscow,” the FSB said.

The man was detained, and a criminal case was opened under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers high treason.

“Documentary evidence has established that, acting on instructions from Ukrainian blogger D.N. Karpenko, known by the pseudonym ‘Apostol Dmitry,’ the Russian citizen collected information about employees of the diplomatic mission, including identification and photographic data, residential addresses, vehicles they used, meetings and trips, as well as details of the embassy’s security system and events held there,” the FSB said.

The security service emphasized that Kyiv planned to use the information “to prepare and carry out acts of sabotage and terrorism against the head of the British diplomatic mission and other diplomats, followed by accusations against the Russian side in order to draw Britain into a direct armed conflict with the Russian Federation, secure additional supplies of weapons and military equipment from London to Ukraine, and increase sanctions pressure on Russia.”

A preliminary investigation is currently underway. The FSB said it would continue countering the activities of foreign intelligence services by all available means.
