Iraqi Turkmen leader appointed to cabinet for first time

Mehmet Seman Agha, leader of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, has been appointed Minister of State following a vote in the Iraqi parliament on vacant ministerial positions.

Axar.az reports that this is the first time the leader of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF), a political organization representing Iraqi Turkmen, has been appointed to a ministerial post.

Agha, who also serves as governor of Kirkuk, has made history as the first ethnic Turkmen in a century to be appointed to the position.

The newly appointed minister is expected to resign as governor. However, his successor is also expected to be chosen from among the Turkmen community.

Note that, a Minister of State is a government official who does not oversee a specific ministry or department but is responsible for carrying out special assignments on behalf of the government.
