British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended former Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Axar.az reports this was stated in Johnson's article on the "Telegraph" newspaper.

"Modern Britain is a product of great ideas, and many of them are not very good in today's reality. Yes, Churchill was a proponent of different views. He has changed over time. He changed his view of India and its ability to gain independence. In 1890, he built a mosque in Ridgents Park in 1940, regardless of what he said about Islam.

"Many need to think about his stand-alone against racist tyranny before he can be fairly accused of racism."

Earlier, protesters in London accused Churchill of racism and wrote various inscriptions on his statue.
