It is clear to everyone that the main reason behind Putin's three-day ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 is to ensure the security of the May 9 Victory Day parade. Through this parade, Putin wants to show the world that Russia remains a geopolitical power and has emerged from international isolation.
Axar.az reports that political analyst Kamran Jafarli made this statement.
“However, there is one very important issue here: security. If any provocation, sabotage, or military strike occurs during this event attended by foreign leaders, it will not only nullify Russia’s efforts to restore its image but also damage it further. In that case, it would be more reasonable not to hold the so-called 'May 9 Parade' political show at all. After all, a country that cannot ensure the security of a simple parade cannot claim to be a geopolitical power—nor even a regional one,” the analyst said.
According to him, Ukraine's military and political leadership is well aware of the historical importance and sensitivity of this moment for Russia:
“Taking advantage of the situation, President Zelensky delivered a very subtle and professional diplomatic message: ‘We cannot be held responsible for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation. Therefore, we cannot offer you any security guarantees.’ It was a skillfully crafted diplomatic statement. After all, how can Ukraine guarantee the safety of an event held on the territory of another state? Nonetheless, everyone clearly understood the real message Zelensky intended to send.
The Head of the Presidential Office, Yermak, also shared the following photo yesterday. With these messages, Ukraine’s military and political leadership is calling on leaders considering attending the May 9 parade to reconsider.”
