The divided Cyprus issue will ultimately be resolved through the creation of two sovereign states.

Axar.az reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated that the Cyprus issue will eventually be resolved on the basis of establishing two sovereign states on the island.

“We fully support the two-state solution vision proposed by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar. We will continue to contribute and maintain a constructive approach. As agreed during the informal meeting held under UN auspices in Geneva on March 17–18, the Turkish Cypriot people will eventually secure the recognition of their sovereign equality and equal international status,” Erdoğan said.

According to Erdoğan, Turkiye will always stand by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on this path:

“We sincerely want a fair, permanent, sustainable, and realistic solution. Events in our region show that this reality must now be acknowledged. It is time everyone recognizes that there are two peoples and two states on this island. Ankara’s support for the Turkish Cypriots and their independent state remains unwavering, and Turkiye will remain the guarantor of Northern Cyprus’s security.”
