The Bureau of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held a meeting as part of the organization’s annual session in Tbilisi July 4.

During the meeting three people were nominated to the post of OSCE PA president and four to the post of vice-president, Azay Guliyev, Azerbaijani MP, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE PA, vice-chair of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security Azay Guliyev informed, APA reports.

Guliyev said he was also nominated to serve as OSCE PA vice-president.

“I think that our activities in this period and the progress achieved by our country in the international arena in recent years give a chance to the Azerbaijani representative. We are waiting for the results of tomorrow’s elections,” he said.

Guliyev noted that OSCE PA committees have already completed elections.

“It was my last meeting at the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security after the three-year tenure as vice-president. US Senator Roger Wicker was re-elected as chair of the committee, Guglielmo Picchi (MP, Italy) as vice-chair. Ms. Margareta Cederfelt, (MP, Sweden) was also re-elected to the leadership of committee.

Guliyev said the Azerbaijani delegation is active at the OSCE PA session and trying to defend Azerbaijan’s interests.

“Amendments proposed by us have often been adopted and Azerbaijan’s stance has been taken into account as to principles issues such as the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and border inviolability of member countries. As you know, a resolution was adopted in Helsinki in 2015 that conflicts in the OSCE territory, especially the ones in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine must only be settled in keeping with international law, and territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. In that resolution we had noted that people’s right to self-determination is by no means to violate the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty. This issue was backed by today’s resolutions once again. I think that after all we accomplished the Parliamentary Assembly’s work successfully,” he concluded.
