What weapons does France intend to give to Armenia? Both Paris and Yerevan note that these are defensive weapons only. Full details have not yet been released.
Axar.az reports that this was said by the general director of the Caspian Strategic Research Institute, military expert Igor Korotchenko.
"Obviously, there will be air defence systems. In fact, it can only be tentatively assumed that air defence systems are defensive weapons. For example, if Yerevan decides to commit armed provocation, then it is difficult to call it a defensive weapon. As an arms producer, France is one of the top three major global arms suppliers, according to year-end figures. France has a very wide range of weapons. It is an independent centre for European production of all major types of weapons. However, the question arises: how will Armenia combine the French weapons with the Soviet systems it has? "Also, the supply of weapons implies the arrival of foreign military specialists to the country, who should train Armenian military personnel on the spot for operational and combat use of the supplied military equipment," he said.
Korotchenko noted that after the weapons, a French military component will appear in Armenia, which may initially be in the form of up to 100 military advisers and specialists:
"As soon as the necessary conditions are created, a full-scale military presence of France can be established in Yerevan based on the cooperation options developed in the future. It is possible to announce it suddenly and simultaneously. In addition, there is a joint air defence system within the CSTO. Armenia's cooperation in the military field with a NATO member state implies the severance of alliance ties and Armenia's withdrawal from all CSTO agreements. Sooner or later it will happen. It is important to understand that Armenia will move to NATO weapons standards. And this is the main point. This means that the republic will abandon the entire previous military system based on the use of Russian weapons.
