The foundation of the American billionaire George Soros, which was established in Kyrgyzstan in 1993, will cease to operate in the country due to the new law on non-profit organizations.
Axar.az reports that this information is provided on the foundation's website.
"The new law imposes disproportionate and unnecessary restrictions on foreign-funded organizations. Over 30 years, the organization has contributed more than $115 million to various projects in Kyrgyzstan, cooperating with both the government and civil society. The projects covered education, health, digital technology and legal aid systems. Now such benevolent activities serving the interests of the country will be unfairly branded as foreign representatives. The fund is managed by Kyrgyz citizens but receives funding from abroad, so it will inevitably be subject to new legislative restrictions," the statement said.
