Armenian schools reduce focus on Russian language

New state education standards have come into force in Armenia for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Axar.az reports, citing "Sputnik Armenia," that according to the new standards, Russian has been downgraded from a primary language to a foreign language in several school grades. At the same time, two hours per week will be allocated for each foreign language:

"In other words, 'Russian Language' as a separate subject remains only in grades 4, 9 (three hours per week), 11, and 12 (two hours per week). For students in grades 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10, there is no separate 'Russian Language' subject. There is 'Foreign Language 1' and 'Foreign Language 2'.
