The Kyrgyz Parliament has refused to restore ex-president status to the country's first leader, Askar Akayev.
Axar.az informs that it was reported that by Kyrgyz media.
The parliament supported this decision and declined to grant Akayev's request to establish a temporary deputy commission.
The decision was made with a majority vote, with 71 deputies rejecting the restoration of the status and two in favor. Akayev had approached the legislative assembly in early September, requesting the reinstatement of "former president status," which would protect him from prosecution for actions taken during his presidency, along with other privileges, including a pension amounting to 75% of the current leader's salary and lifetime state protection.
