On October 14, foreign ministers of EU member states discussed the pre-election situation in Georgia and Moldova.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Josep Borrell, the head of the EU's foreign policy service.

"Both countries are facing crucial elections in the coming weeks. Moldova has made significant progress on its path to EU membership despite increasing pressures from Russia. The situation in Georgia is more complex compared to Moldova. The actions, statements, and electoral promises of the ruling party are distancing the country from EU membership and indicate a trend towards authoritarianism. Therefore, Georgia's EU membership process is effectively stalled," Borrell stated.

He noted that the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections must be awaited: "This will be a crucial test for Georgia's democracy and its path to joining the European Union."

It is worth mentioning that the parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held on October 26.
