European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen accused Russia on Saturday of using energy supplies as a form of "blackmail" against Austria and the EU.

Axar.az reports that reacting to Gazprom’s decision to suspend natural gas deliveries to Austria, von der Leyen stated on X that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "weaponizing" energy to exert pressure on Europe.

She assured that the EU is well-prepared for such disruptions, emphasizing that gas storage facilities across member states are full, ensuring readiness for the winter.

Von der Leyen also reaffirmed the EU’s support for Austria, referencing her recent discussions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on the matter.

On Friday, Nehammer announced that Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned gas company, would cease gas supplies to Austria starting Saturday.
