Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the Parliament of Albania Elisa Spiropali, who was visiting our country to participate in the Parliamentary Meeting jointly organized by the Parliament of Azerbaijan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Baku within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

Welcoming the guest, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova thanked the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament for his participation in the COP29 event and his interesting speech. It was noted that Albanian President Edi Rama also participated in the Leaders' Summit of COP29. These facts are an indicator of friendly relations between our countries.

Congratulating both COP29 and the Parliamentary Meeting on the high-level organization, Elisa Spiropali noted that the session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is quite an important and big event. He noted that Azerbaijan successfully hosted this global event. According to the guest, the holding of the Parliamentary Meeting is an expression of the support of the Milli Majlis to solving issues related to climate change.

During the conversation, it was noted that climate change is the most urgent problem of our time and all countries suffer from this problem. The parties emphasized the importance of increasing the support of developed countries to small island states.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Albania recalled with pleasure the meeting he held with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis in Geneva, Switzerland in October of this year, and expressed his satisfaction with the development of friendly relations between our countries and peoples. It was noted that important projects are being implemented between our countries.

During the conversation, discussions were held about further strengthening of cooperation between our parliaments. Satisfaction was expressed with the joint activity and mutual support of our parliaments in a number of international parliamentary organizations. It was noted that mutual visits and contacts, expansion of relations between parliamentary committees and friendship groups will contribute to further deepening of relations between our legislative bodies.

Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova informed the guest about the current situation in the region. He noted with regret that after Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, there were political attacks and pressure attempts against our country by some countries. However, Azerbaijan is committed to its development path.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
