U.S. sanctions on "Gazprombank" may complicate payments for Russian gas supplies to Turkiye.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by the "Hurriyet" newspaper.

The report states that the sanctions could make it difficult for several countries, including Turkiye, Hungary, Greece, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy, and Austria, to make payments for Russian gas exports.

“Moscow has started searching for alternative payment methods, but the crisis is expected to peak in January,” the report adds.

It is noted that the issue of sanctions on "Gazprombank" was raised last week during budget discussions in Parliament by Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Fidan emphasized that 40% of Turkiye's imported gas comes through "Gazprom" and stated that the U.S. position shows a lack of concern about the potential consequences.

It is worth mentioning that on November 21, the U.S. imposed sanctions on "Gazprombank" and its six foreign subsidiaries.
